Martyr Trapper?
So I've crossed over to the dark side and started playing as a trapper with IWAY teams. I'm a little confused as to the role of the martyr trapper though. I know I'm supposed to be a defensive trapper and hit martyr all the time....but what else? What skills am I supposed to be using? Here's a very rough look at what I was using:
1: Healing spring (It seemed like this was a little more effective than flame trap for defensive trapping )
2: Barbed trap
3: Dust trap
4: Spirit
5: Troll Unguent
6: Dodge or whirling D
7: Martyr (E)
8: Res sig

You've got it down. Whirling Defense though, dont know why you'd put Dodge there.
Edit: missed the spirit slot.

Hmmm.. so no on the healing spring? The flame trap seems much more effective in an offensive role for driving people out of wards. The reason I picked dodge was because of the huge recharge time on whirling. It's really only good for one set of traps, whereas dodge can be used almost every time you're laying them down and it's *almost* as good. Thanks though, I'll give it a shot.

I saw a martyr trapper in HoH using something like this:
Dust Trap
Barb Trap
Flame Trap/Healing Spring
Whirling Defense
Troll Ungent
Martyr
Purge Conditions
Rez sig
Never tried it but it seems it'll work ok, so you don't have to run around with 10 different conditions on you.

I usually use Antidote Signet since its recharge is only ~8 seconds, making it a good choice to use with Martyr.

Antidote Signet is only Poison, Disease, and Blind, don't forget (unless I'm wrong).

The skill description is incorrect, I know for a fact that it does work on dazed, never bothered with anything else though. I'd assume it could be like purge conditions, which doesn't list that it removes burning and weakness, yet does remove them.
If I remember I'll test it at isle of the nameless tomorrow and edit this post with the results.
Edit: In addition to curing poision, blindness, and disease, it also cures burning and dazed.

Only nubs use whirling on their martyr trapper. Your job is to trap the necs, bridges, walkways and spirits - nothing else. At least thats how it works in r6++ iway.
Your skills are:
1. martyr
2. flame trap
3. barbed trap
4. dust trap
5. trol ungent
6. frozen soil or serpents quickness (depends if leader wants frozen or not)
7. nr2
8. rez
Stick to the build and get used to it, happy iwaying.
P.S.
Troll ungent is enuf to counter martyr, and purge is a waste of a skill.
Healing Spring is only used by offensive trappers.
Whirling has a shit recharge, and is useless when ur targeted by surger / migraine mesmers - your better off without it.

It's certainly gonna be no fun when you have the full set of conditions on you, need get up troll and a warriors smacks you with a distracting blow.
Or how about that ranger who has targeted you with their bow and you simply cannot get one single trap down?
If you think you can just swan around without any kind of physical agro in tombs, then think again.
Trapping without cover (resolve/whilring even distortion) is asking for trouble imo in any situation. Just watch any warrior who is hacking away at you when whirling goes up and see how long they keep at you...
Regarding E-surge. Nothing can protect you from it. You can use weapon switching to minimise mind wrack dmg but thats about it.

the only thing i have to say about this is that if you get chased around with cripple on you, you're pretty much done and you will probably need someone to remove that. But again, that will only work if you are working with people that know what they are doing, most of the time i'm on defensive trapping, the necros move out of my trap and warrior just hunts them down. And SP hurts your traps. Other than that, i actually might try that out.

I do work with people that know what their doing, and 16-18 seconds is a waste for a 60 recharge time - itll stop maybe 1 or 2 interupts then ur owned anyway. Face the facts that your gona get interupted a few times, but being able to avoid that makes you a better player anyway, gl with it

Remember mate we are talking about martyr trappers which play defensively, they dont go near the main battle. If your targeted with or without whirling it makes barely no difference.
I do stroll around without cover and i know for a fact that its alot better to have a more helpfull skill like FS or SQ. I get to halls evveryday, and ive been trappin since rank 0 (nearly rank 9). Im not trying to be smart, im just saying try it, you get used to it then realise how much of a waste whirling is.
